Precision Alterations and Garment Reshaping in Petaling Jaya
Not every garment needs to be rebuilt from scratch. Sometimes the right answer is a careful alteration by people who live inside garment construction. At Two Tailor, every alteration passes through the same hands that hand-finish our bespoke pieces: founder and Master Tailor Jacky Wong, head seamstress Sarah Lee, and fitting specialist Azman bin Hashim. We will always give you an honest opinion on whether the work is worth doing before a single stitch is touched.

Fifty Years of Alterations, Kept Under One Petaling Jaya Roof
Two Tailor has been reshaping garments in Petaling Jaya since Jacky Wong first set up his shears in PJ Old Town back in 1975. Fifty-one years on, the atelier has moved to a more spacious studio closer to SS2, but the working philosophy has not changed. Every alteration passes through the same hands that hand-finish our bespoke commissions. You are not queueing behind a bigger job here. Your garment is worked on by Jacky himself, head seamstress Sarah Lee, or fitting specialist Azman bin Hashim, the same small team whose work earned the Best Local Tailor recognition at the Petaling Jaya Business Excellence Awards in 2019 and 2022.
Most shops in the Klang Valley treat alterations as filler work between bigger jobs. We take the opposite view. Whether the task is a shortened sleeve, a taken-in waist, or a partial rebuild of a vintage jacket, your piece sits on the same benches and under the same overhead lamps as the Zegna cloth we cut for our full-canvas clients.
The Walk-In Assessment That Most PJ Tailors Skip
Before any seam is opened, we give every piece a free honest assessment. Sarah will study the shoulder line, the seam allowances, the lining and the way the cloth falls on your posture, then tell you plainly what is possible and what is not. If a fused high-street blazer has run out of options, we say so. If the work crosses from simple alteration into genuine reconstruction, we show you why, quote the added hours, and leave the decision in your hands.
Our regulars across Damansara Uptown, Bandar Utama and Kelana Jaya have come to rely on this honesty over three generations of referrals. We would rather lose one small job and earn a long-term client than dress up a hopeless garment for a single invoice. Read our guide on deciding whether a garment is worth altering before you visit, so your assessment is faster and more useful.
Common Mistakes Before You Bring a Garment In
After five decades at the needle and thread, we have seen almost every alteration disaster the high street can produce. A short list of things to avoid before your visit:
- Dry-cleaning the piece in between mall and us. Stains set, shrinkage creeps in, and the seam allowances tighten. Bring the garment in the state you want us to save.
- Cutting off the original mill tags. Wool, silk, linen and technical blends each need a specific needle size and pressing temperature. Those tags guide us.
- Waiting until three days before the event. Genuine hand-finishing takes time, especially on structured jackets. Give us at least two weeks whenever possible.
- Assuming a previous mall alteration is reversible. Sometimes it is. Sometimes the original construction has already been destroyed.
- Trying to “upgrade” a fast-fashion piece into formalwear. The internal canvas and cloth quality place hard limits on what any tailor can rescue.
Garments We Rebuild in the Two Tailor Workroom
Tailored Jackets, Suits and Tuxedos
Jacky’s fifty years with structured tailoring shows in the way he treats a jacket. We take in or let out within the existing seam allowance, refine sleeve pitch, adjust lapel roll, shorten sleeves from the shoulder so the working buttonholes are preserved, and refit trousers at the waist, seat and thigh. Wherever possible we reuse the original threads and finishings, so the alteration leaves no visible trace.
Evening Wear, Dresses and Cheongsam
Sarah leads the women’s reshaping bench. From taking in a cocktail dress for a corporate dinner around Dataran Sunway to refitting a modern cheongsam for a family celebration in SS2, her hand is gentle and her finishing immaculate. Beaded, sequinned and hand-embroidered pieces are worked stitch by stitch under the bench lamp rather than pushed through a machine.
Baju Melayu, Baju Kurung and Traditional Wear
Azman is our traditional menswear specialist. He personally handles Baju Melayu trousers, collar and sleeve adjustments, as well as songket waistcoats and samping refits. He also reshapes the shirts and trousers worn beneath corporate Baju Melayu so the silhouette stays crisp through a full day of Raya functions or a Majlis Perkahwinan.
Bridal Parties and Heirloom Restoration
Wedding parties are handled with calm and care. Sarah manages bridal gowns and bridesmaid fittings, Azman dresses the groom and groomsmen in both Western and traditional attire, and Jacky oversees the final pressing. We also rebuild heirloom pieces, from 1970s wedding suits and silk cheongsam to family kebaya where a simple alteration is not enough and a genuine partial reconstruction is required.
A Tropical Climate That Exposes Bad Alterations
Alterations that hold up beautifully in a London studio often fail in Petaling Jaya humidity. Synthetic interlinings bubble under repeated dry cleaning, fused glues release, and machine-pressed seams open up when the air hits eighty percent humidity during the November monsoon. Whenever we shorten a sleeve, take in a side seam or refit a waist, we deliberately use thread weights, interfacings and hand pressing methods that hold up in tropical conditions. The result is an alteration that still reads correctly three monsoon seasons later.
Honest, Tiered Pricing
| Type of work | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Trouser hems and basic length adjustments | RM20 to RM35 |
| Dress, cheongsam and waist adjustments | RM50 to RM250 |
| Jacket reshaping, sleeve work and reconstruction | RM75 to RM300 |
We provide a written quote at the assessment, so there are no surprises. Complex restorations may sit slightly outside these bands and we will always discuss that with you before lifting a single seam ripper. Every bespoke commission from Two Tailor also carries our lifetime alteration promise, so adjustments for changing body shape remain complimentary for the life of the garment.
Same-Week Rush When Life Demands It
Sometimes a wedding date shifts, a job offer arrives unexpectedly, or you discover at the last minute that a pair of trousers no longer fits. We hold a small slice of expedite capacity each week for genuine urgent cases across Kelana Jaya, Bandar Utama, Subang Jaya and the wider Klang Valley. Call 012-3750559 and we will tell you plainly whether we can help in time.
